Jag var 18 när jag första gången såg några av Maurice de Vlamincks målningar. Det var i samband med den stora van Gogh-utställningen på Nationalmuseum 1958. Alltsedan dess har han varit en av mina favoritkonstnärer.
"But he has a hard time to live from his painting, specially since his early exhibitions are greatly criticized. So, to earn money to live, he becomes a mechanic in a bike workshop, teaches violin and plays in several orchestras. Keen on sport, he successfuly participates to bicycling and sailing competitions. - From 1914, starting to be recognized, he exhibits his work all over the world. Beside his painting, Vlaminck also writes novels, poetry and essays."

Vlaminck dog 1958. Jag undrar vad han hade sagt, om någon berättat för honom vilka summor hans målningar skulle komma att säljas för i framtiden.
